Elizabeth Blackwell was the first fermale medical doctor in the United States. She was born in Beistol, England on February 3, 1821. She emigrated to New York City in 1849. she graduated from Geneva Medical School in Geneva, New York in 1849. She opened the New York Infirmary because, as a woman, she could not get a job in a hospital in 1853. She opened the Women's Medical College of the New York Infirmary in 1868. She assisted in founding the London School of Medicine for Women in 1875. She died in Hastings, England in 1910.
